The old table you see in this photo was found left with a heap of junk for someone to take before it all went to the tip.
I grabbed it because I’m always looking for something to demonstrate on. At first it didn’t look good enough even for a demo. It was greyish and covered in years of dust and other fallout and it appeared to have no character or grain whatsoever. So I began sanding it back with my Bosch random orbital sander and as the detritus was cut away I was more than pleased to see decent grain emerging and I knew I was on a winner. So I went ahead and did the sides and legs of the table as well.
After sanding it I needed to lift some of the residual filth out of wood so I sprayed some Howard Clean-A-Finish onto the surface and placed a good quality sponge backed with fine abrasive ( never use those cheap green things you buy in a bulk pack plastic wrap) into an old ice-cream bucket filled with warm water and took it out, sprayed a bit more into the abrasive side and then began to rub it into the wood, going with the grain and working up a lather.
